In a significant move to enhance the video sharing experience, Facebook has announced a major change through its latest Facebook Reels Update. Moving forward, all videos on the platform will be shared as Reels, eliminating the need for users to choose between uploading a traditional video or a reel. This unified approach aims to simplify content creation, improve discoverability, and offer users more control and flexibility.

Previously, users had to choose between uploading a standard video or creating a reel, each with separate tools and creative flows. Going forward, Facebook will consolidate these options into a single streamlined video posting experience, removing the need for users to differentiate between the two formats.

One of the biggest highlights of this change is that Reels will no longer have length or format restrictions. Whether it’s a short clip or a longer video, users can now post freely without worrying about limitations.

The update also includes enhanced creative tools and custom audience controls, giving users more power over who can view their content. As part of the change, Facebook is unifying privacy settings for both Feed posts and Reels, ensuring a more consistent experience. Users will be prompted to review or adjust their audience settings when they start posting Reels under the new system.

Facebook emphasized that the platform will continue to support all types of video—short-form, long-form, and Live—and these updates are aimed at making video discovery and sharing more seamless. Importantly, existing videos already shared will remain visible on profiles and Pages, and creators will continue to benefit from video distribution.

In alignment with this rollout, Facebook is also renaming its “Video” tab to the Reels” tab. The fullscreen video player introduced last year will remain in use, showcasing videos of all lengths in a consistent design. Personalized recommendations based on user interests will still guide which videos and Reels are shown.

This global rollout will take place gradually over the coming months and applies to both personal profiles and business Pages. Facebook sees this as a step toward helping creators and users alike engage more deeply with the growing video community on the platform.
