Affected Provinces Include B.C., Ontario, and Manitoba, with Possible Impact Elsewhere

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced that eggs recalled for salmonella risk have affected several provinces, including British Columbia, Ontario, and Manitoba. The recall applies to popular brands such as Compliments, Foremost, Golden Valley Eggs, IGA, no name, and Western Family. The affected eggs have expiry dates of February 16, February 22, and March 1, 2025.

The recall specifically targets British Columbia, Ontario, and Manitoba, with CFIA noting that other provinces and territories could also be affected. Alberta and Saskatchewan were initially included in the notice but have since been excluded.

The CFIA advises consumers not to consume, use, serve, or distribute the recalled eggs. Instead, affected products should be discarded or returned to the retailer where they were purchased.

Salmonella-contaminated food may appear normal in taste and smell but can cause serious health issues. Symptoms for healthy individuals may include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Diarrhea

For vulnerable groups such as young children, pregnant women, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems, the infection can lead to severe complications or even death.

Consumers are urged to check their egg cartons for the affected brands and expiry dates. If your eggs match the recall notice, follow CFIA guidelines and avoid consuming them.
